Woodside’s Dirty Gas

Protect the Ocean
Save Scott Reef from Woodside’s Dirty Gas
Scott Reef is a fragile, living treasure that is home to endangered green turtles, elusive pygmy blue whales and rare sharks. This coral sanctuary is under threat from Woodside’s plan to drill for gas.

Save Scott Reef from Woodside’s toxic gas
The plans to drill for dirty gas from under the beautiful Scott Reef could have devastating impacts.
-

Wildlife not Woodside
Woodside plans to drill up to 57 gas wells off the coast of WA, within kilometres of Scott Reef’s majestic waters.
The Problem
This underwater wonder faces a major threat from Woodside’s massive gas project, which plans to draw out gas beneath its fragile foundation. Woodside intends to drill up to 57 wells, some barely kilometres away, bringing seismic blasts, incessant noise, blazing flares, and heavy industrial traffic to this delicate ecosystem.
The risks are staggering. A single well blowout could spill vast quantities of oil and condensate, devastating not just Scott Reef but neighbouring marine parks teaming with wildlife. Sandy nesting habitat for endangered green turtles could sink as gas is extracted from beneath. The pollution and disruption threaten to unravel a vibrant web of life that has thrived for millions of years.

The Solution
The decision to approve or reject Woodside’s plans to drill for gas from the Browse basin underneath Scott Reef currently sits with the Minister for the Environment, Murray Watt. This decision to stop Woodside’s dirty gas now, will shape our environmental legacy forever. The government can choose to protect Scott Reef, joining the ranks of the Great Barrier Reef, Franklin River, and Daintree as national treasures saved in time or allow its destruction, risking irreversible damage that future generations will never forgive.
