VIC Premier Denis Napthine is a supporter of a 10c recycling refund scheme - because it works. But the Coke-funded Beverage Council of Australia is running a massive advertising campaign to stop politicians from rolling out this popular program across the country. It's a scheme that would double recycling rates nationwide.
Together, let's tell Premier Napthine to introduce Cash for Containers and stand up to Coke.
I am writing to urge you to stand firm on your commitment to Cash for Containers and not feel pressured by the bullying of soft drink giants led by Coca-Cola.
We know that this recycling scheme will benefit our environment, community groups, local council and save taxpayers money.
It's very clear to me that drinks industry advertising campaign is scaremongering at its worst. Good on you for standing up to them.
With the formal process for an Australia-wide scheme now abandoned I urge you to bring in Cash for Containers in Victoria. Once the scheme is up and running in Victoria there is no doubt others states will follow. You will create an unstoppable force that will leave a legacy for generations to come.
