Michelle Hunt is one of our interns working on public engagement. She’s finishing up on Wednesday after busily organising a series of public talks on climate change.

When I started at Greenpeace three months ago I was the classic armchair (or closet) activist. I really cared about a large number of environmental and humanitarian issues but felt too small (5’2″to be exact) to make a difference on such big issues. A global topic like climate change seemed so overwhelming and taking action was limited to turning off lights and taking the bus.

Now my Greenpeace internship days are coming to an end – but I’m just at the start of my Climate Activist career. I’m feeling empowered and ready to do the simple things that will have a big impact. If you would like to be inspired, get out your diary and ‘permanent marker’ these dates in:

Solving the Climate Crisis: Free talks at the Australian Museum
Greenpeace Climate and Energy Campaign Co-ordinator John Hepburn and a special guest speaker from the Pacific will outline how everyday people are solving the climate crisis. This is in conjunction with the Australian Museum’s “Climate Change: Our future, Our Choice” exhibition.

Voices from the Frontline: Taking Action on Climate Change in the Pacific
Come and meet the people at the frontline of climate change in the Pacific and hear their stories of the effects on their homes and livelihoods. Learn about what they are doing to protect their communities and ensure that their cultures live on and, most importantly, find out what simple steps you can take to support their fight for survival.
