The Climate Credibility Scorecard
Discover which major brands are doing the dirty work of Big Gas, and who is walking the talk on climate
Where do Australia's biggest businesses stand on fossil fuels?
What do Telstra, Bupa, Commonwealth Bank, Woolworths and Monash University all have in common?
They’re all paying members of the Business Council of Australia (BCA) – an influential business lobby group representing some of the largest companies and institutions in Australia.
The science is crystal clear: we can’t approve any new coal or gas projects if we want to avoid catastrophic climate impacts and limit global warming to 1.5C. But the BCA has been lobbying the government for a weak climate plan, more investment in fossil fuels, and even backed Woodside’s massive gas plant to run until the 2070s. These policies would undermine the Paris Agreement and keep Australia hooked on fossil fuels.
Check out the rankings below to see which big brands are climate hypocrites, and which companies are moving in the right direction.

to Disconnect from Big Gas!
Telstra claims to be a leader on climate. But at the same time, it sits on the board of the Business Council of Australia (BCA) - a lobby group stacked with some of Australia's biggest polluters, hell-bent on pushing for more fossil fuels like gas.
With Telstra's backing, the BCA has doubled down on its support for polluting gas projects like Woodside's North West Shelf Extension and recently influenced the government to set a dangerously weak 2035 climate target. That's not climate leadership – it's betrayal.
By staying in the BCA and endorsing its lobbying for more fossil fuels, Telstra is breaking the climate promises it's made to customers, shareholders, and the Australian public.
In 2019, Telstra threatened to dump the BCA over its stance on climate change. Since then, the climate crisis has only accelerated.
Enough is enough. Call on Telstra to disconnect from Big Gas and walk away from the BCA once and for all.
