Tell the Federal Government to curb polluting gas exports
Right now we have a rare chance to lower energy bills and protect our climate. The Federal Government is reviewing the gas market, proposing huge reforms that could force gas corporations to export less gas. This would be a crucial first step to phasing out this polluting fossil fuel.
But the gas lobby is trying to rig the gas market review to protect their profits and fast-track new gas projects. We can't let that happen.
Australia’s gas market is broken. We pay sky high electricity prices while gas corporations rake in billions of dollars exporting 80% of our gas overseas. Big Gas has been getting away with polluting our climate and destroying our oceans for decades, while pushing for endless new gas expansion.
Right now is a critical opportunity to change that.
This review is open for consultation until 9 March. Don’t miss this chance to have your say and urge the government to stand up to Big Gas.

To deliver genuine cost-of-living relief and honour our international climate commitments, the reform must:
1. Redirect gas exports not increase gas production.
2. Integrate gas demand reduction and electrification into the policy to support the transition to cheap, clean renewable energy.
3. Rule out subsidies for the gas industry and reject any weakening of regulations to fast-track gas projects.
4. Form part of a plan to phase out gas.
It’s not too late to have your say
- but we have to act now!
We need as many people as possible to pressure the Federal Government to stand up to Big Gas. Our handy tool can send an email on your behalf in just a few clicks.
You can send our pre-filled message, or write your own.
Just remember these 3 things:
1. Keep it polite
We're asking the Federal Government to consider our concerns in their review of Australia's gas market. They are not the enemy, so ask nicely and please keep it respectful.
2. Be clear
We need the Federal Government to know: the Gas Market Review is a rare opportunity to protect our climate and put Australians above the profits of the gas industry.
3. Spell out the risks
If the Federal Government decides to side with Big Gas, we are at risk of decades more pollution and environmental destruction, while the gas industry continues to profit.
Gas Corporations in Australia Export 80% of our gas and pay barely any tax.
Ordinary people are paying more for energy than ever before, while Big Gas gets a free ride. Nurses pay more tax than oil and gas companies!
Australia's gas corporations export around 80% of our gas overseas for massive profit. Meanwhile everyday people pay the price with soaring energy bills, and climate disasters like floods and fires.
If more gas was reserved for domestic use, we’d have more than enough from existing projects and no need to drill for any more. We need a plan to conserve what we have while we transition away from gas, not lock in new polluting projects that are destroying our climate and environment.
It’s time to say no to new gas projects.
