THIS YEAR IS PIVOTAL: THE GOVERNMENT IS DECIDING THE FUTURE OF THE GAS INDUSTRY THIS YEAR IS PIVOTAL: THE GOVERNMENT IS DECIDING THE FUTURE OF THE GAS INDUSTRY

Who is Big Gas?

Big Gas is a powerful network of billionaires, lobbyists and multinationals like Woodside, ConocoPhillips and Santos all fighting to keep Australia hooked on its dirty gas.

They claim we need more gas to justify their polluting new projects, spending millions of dollars on PR campaigns to reinforce their lies.

The truth is, we already have enough gas to support the transition to cheaper, cleaner energy without locking in more climate harm — it’s all about their profit.

We don’t need any new gas projects.

Bushfire in Snowy Mountains, Australia

LOCATION: VICTORIA

Big Gas cashes in. Australia pays the price.

While these companies bank billions, pay little tax, and spend heavily on false advertising and lobbying, Australians are left with the fallout.

Everyday people are paying the price with soaring energy bills, and climate disasters like floods and fires.

More gas locks in more climate damage, intensifying impacts we’re already living with. Hotter summers. Longer fire seasons. More devastating bushfires across Australia and beyond.

This isn’t a future risk. It’s happening right now and will only get worse unless we stop the expansion of gas.

Whales in the Great Australian Bight

Big Gas.
Big blasts.;
Big damage
to wildlife.

TTo search for gas under the ocean floor, the gas industry uses seismic blasting, firing powerful airguns into the ocean.

Imagine a sound as loud as a jet plane, blasting every 10 to 15 seconds, day and night, for weeks or months at a time.

That’s the reality for marine life.

Whales and dolphins rely on sound to navigate and hunt. The seismic blasts cause disorientation, stress, and in severe cases, permanent hearing damage and death.

LOCATION: THE OTWAY BASIN

Big Gas expansion is threatening Victoria’s oceans.

Right now, gas companies are pushing to expand gas drilling in the Otway Basin, driven by the relentless search for profit.

The Otways is a vital sanctuary for endangered Southern right whales and pygmy blue whales. Seismic blasting will make it harder for these endangered species to recover. Once extraction begins, there is a constant risk of leaks. Where they drill, they spill.

This isn’t just about one place. Projects like these are threatening some of our most fragile ocean environments.

Our government has a choice: keep backing Big Gas, or protect the places we love.
Public pressure is what makes governments act.

The expansion plan you’re not meant to see.

Big Gas is trying to roll out a massive wave of offshore drilling, seismic blasting and mega‑export projects that would lock in decades more pollution.

Driven by corporations like Woodside, Santos, and ConocoPhillips the gas industry stretches across land and sea, often in remote areas - where the impacts are hidden from public view.

Every new gas project locks in more climate damage and harms the environment. We can’t let Big Gas get away with this.

The government must act now and stop approving new gas drilling, once and for all.

Don’t let Big Gas gaslight us.

Big Gas wants us to believe Australia needs more gas, even though most of it is destined for export while the damage stays here.

Our government has a choice: keep backing Big Gas, or protect what we have.

Public pressure is what makes governments act.

Rising Tide Blockade of the World's Largest Coal Port in Newcastle, NSW

We’ve done it before, we can do it again.

Greenpeace has taken on fossil fuel giants before, and won.

We helped stop oil drilling in the Great Australian Bight and blocked a coal ship in Newcastle just last year.

With your support, we can take on Big Gas next.

Our climate

Stopping gas expansion means less pollution that fuels extreme fires, heat and weather.

Humpback Whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) Mother and Calf swim near Ningaloo Reef, Australia.

Whales and other marine life

Seismic blasting, relentless disruption and the risk of increased spills and irreversible ocean damage is avoided.

Oil is visible on the surface of the water at the site of an oil spill at Shell’s Brutus Platform.

Energy Independence

Australians are free to get off gas and choose cheaper renewable energy, not be made reliant on expensive gas we don't need.

This is how Big Gas gets shut down.

1.
Exposure

Greenpeace ships and investigators uncover the damage Big Gas wants hidden.

2.
Applying pressure

Public campaigns turn exposure into pressure our government can no longer ignore.

3.
Blocking expansion

Direct action, legal challenges and relentless accountability to stop these harmful projects before they’re locked in.

This damage FROM MORE GAS DRILLING will be locked in for decades, unless we act now.
