Senior Researcher

GREENPEACE

Greenpeace is an independent campaigning organisation, which uses a range of strategies and creative tactics to expose global environmental problems, and develop solutions for a green and peaceful future.

THE TEAM

The campaign team is responsible for fighting for strong climate action and nature protection. Whether it’s preventing huge new gas mines, taking the fight of the Pacific to the world’s biggest stages, or advocating for solutions to replace harmful forms of economic activity, you’ll be working on campaigns we believe will make the world safer and more just.

THE ROLE

The Senior Researcher oversees, shapes and delivers the research of Greenpeace Australia Pacific (GPAP) to help win big and bold campaigns.

The Senior Researcher ensures that GPAP campaign strategies and policies are informed by and are based on facts and high quality research. This role also provides project management and quality assurance for the engagement of external specialist researchers to deliver specific research outcomes or products to advance campaign objectives.

This is an exciting opportunity to use research to help leverage Greenpeace’s large supporter base, considerable corporate campaigning expertise, political networks and international reach to secure great campaign outcomes for the Australian environment and the planet.

This is a 2-year contract position on either a full-time or part-time basis, depending on candidate preference and skillset.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

We are looking for an outstanding researcher who can greatly enhance the quality of our campaign strategies and policies we advocate for. Alongside your considerable research experience, you’ll have a deep understanding of how research can inform and shape advocacy. You’ll also have:

  • Knowledge of research methodology, standards and practice, likely gained from a Research degree (Masters or, ideally, PhD);
  • Expert knowledge of climate and environmental issues, including data underpinning the scientific understanding and measurement of these issues;
  • Good grasp of national climate and environmental policy;
  • Diverse formal research skills, including data analysis;
  • Strong and diverse interpersonal skills suitable to developing professional networks and working across teams and professional functions; and
  • At least four (4) years’ experience managing or leading research projects.

Open to applicants Australia wide, with a preference for either Canberra, Sydney or Melbourne.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • A flexible working environment, with working from home or a hybrid approach if based in Sydney;
  • The chance to use research to engage and mobilise one of the largest NGO membership bases in Australia;
  • The chance to work in a highly experienced, dynamic and passionate campaign team;
  • Access to our global network of research expertise, and the opportunity to connect with our networks across the world;
  • A supportive working environment, including a health allowance, focus on personal development and a robust integrity framework;
  • Generous leave conditions including extra days of leave during the Christmas to New Years period; and
  • A fast-paced and high impact culture that genuinely celebrates inclusivity and diversity; and
  • Opportunities for training and career development.

Salary $104,932.82 per annum + Superannuation

HOW TO APPLY

We strongly encourage you to apply if you’re interested; we’d love to know how you can amplify our team with your unique experience!

To apply for this role please submit a CV (of no more than 3 pages) and a separate Cover Letter (of no more than 1 page) detailing your suitability for the role.

Note: Not all responsibilities and competencies listed in the Job Description need to be addressed; it is left to the discretion of the applicant which to focus on. Remember no one has every skill or experience in the Job Description, and you’ll have the opportunity to learn a lot from the team. We believe someone who has a few of these is well suited to excel.
