Our primary focus in Australia and the Pacific is to drive the rapid transformation away from fossil fuels to clean energy, and we need the right person to ensure that our program work is as impactful as possible, to achieve that essential objective in collaboration with allied organisations and communities.
In the role of Program Director, you will be responsible for Greenpeace Australia Pacific’s (GPAP) Program consisting of the campaigns and projects that we run to achieve change in the world. Dimensions of campaigns can include digital communications, field operations, investigations and research, lobbying and litigation, content creation and media communications, community organising and our trademark spectacular public actions. You will be expected to play a crucial role in helping generate the resources needed to win campaigns and will form an integral part of our senior management team, participating and advising on the overall management and strategic direction of GPAP.
You will also be part of a dynamic global community of Greenpeace Program Directors from around the world, deciding on the shape of our global campaign program. You will report directly to our CEO, David Ritter.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
To be successful in this role, you will need to have demonstrated significant relevant experience in leadership and management. We are searching for someone able to inspire a thriving team culture that encourages inclusion, ambition and innovation. And if you are not sure whether you are qualified then please err on the side of putting in an application – there’s no harm done and we like to think laterally about all our appointments, so have a go.
Creative thinking. This role calls for innovation and creative thinking. You will need to have the ability to manage and work effectively with project teams to develop effective campaigns and communications for multiple audiences.
Management and strategy. Management and strategic skills are essential. At the heart of every Greenpeace project and campaign is a strategy about how to challenge vested interests and shift decision makers to enable the solutions that exist. You will have proven experience of developing effective campaign strategies and constructing multiple layer project and implementation plans to deliver strategic outcomes.
Leadership and learning. Technical skills will not suffice to get this job done; leadership skills are crucial. To succeed, you must be skilled at managing both your direct reports, and the integration of your work with multiple teams throughout the organisation. You will also need to be someone confident in surfacing problems, seeing them as learning opportunities that create the opportunity to generate alternatives for improved future results.
Collaboration. If you are someone who likes to have your own patch and get on with things, then this job isn’t for you. We need someone who understands that there is greater power and resilience in a collaboration and co-creation to build cross-functional cooperation.
Output focused. While we will consider applications from all backgrounds, powerful public relations and communications experience is very advantageous.

Salary $157,116.73 per annum + Superannuation
