A tax deductible donation is a gift made to a charity that can’t provide you with any personal or material benefit. For example, buying tickets to attend a charity event or buying cookies associated with a charity can’t be claimed as a tax deductible donation.
By making a tax deductible donation to Greenpeace you’re not only doing a good but your taxable income and the amount of tax that you pay may decrease.
To be tax deductible, a donation needs to be $2 or more. It also needs to be addressed to an organisation that is entitled to receive tax deductible gifts. We are certified as a deductible gift recipient and hence donations made to us are tax deductible.
Also keep in mind that claiming such tax deduction on your gift won’t affect the amount of money received by Greenpeace. You will receive your return from the Australian Taxation office (ATO).
No! We do not accept donations from corporations, governments or political parties. This ensures that we can fight solely for the benefit of the environment without being held to the interests of any group with vested interests that might try to influence us or threaten to withdraw funding.

Unless otherwise stated, all of the funds raised go into the Greenpeace Trust Fund, which is an untied or unrestricted general fund. This means that Greenpeace can spend the funds where there is the most pressing need, for example, to respond to a recent environmental crisis.
Giving an unrestricted gift is the best way that you can support Greenpeace, as it ensures that we can spend the funds where they are needed most.
"Unrestricted" funds are donations that are available for Greenpeace to use for any purpose. Unrestricted funds will go towards our campaigns and any operating expenses.
In some circumstances, we can accept funds tied to a specific campaign: please contact our Supporter Relationships team on 1800 815 151.
Where donations are earmarked or tied to a specific objective, we fully endeavour to honour the donor's request. If we invite the general public to donate to a specific cause, a recognised accounting method is used to track and control donations. We report back on amounts raised, how it was spent, and the net proportion used for the purpose or cause.
We seek to actively raise no more than the full budget of activities we specify in earmarked funding requests; and will develop scenarios for dealing with shortfall or excess on specific earmarked fundraising projects. We make every effort to provide full and fair disclosure in managing donor designated gifts.
Regular donations allow us to provide a stable and sustainable campaign force for the planet. By signing up to become a regular giver, no matter the size of your regular donation, you will make a vital difference to our ability to respond quickly to the planet’s greatest threats. Our regular donors are proud to know that they have had a hand in powering our effective and strategic campaigns through from conception to victory.
We do not take any donations from corporations, political parties or governments. We encourage donors to make a regular donation, giving Greenpeace the security and stability to make long-term commitments to our campaigns, enabling us to plan ahead, respond quickly, while keeping us flexible and independent.
