Daniel Drapac, a year 10 student from Saint Joseph’s College joined us for a week-long work experience placement. Here’s what he had to say about his experience in the Greenpeace Australia office.

Hi! I’m Daniel from Saint Joseph’s College. I have always been interested in Greenpeace and I have continually supported their campaigns, so I was thrilled to have the opportunity to work with them for a week for work experience. I was able to work with different teams in the office, visit the team at the warehouse, and even join Greenpeace activists and volunteers for a demonstration.

One of the highlights of my week was working with the Oceans team, who help defend our oceans and give them a voice. I gained a lot of insight into ways we can make a more sustainable future for marine life around the world. With over one million sharks being killed each year for their fins – and very little government action taking place – Greenpeace and other organisations are the only voice marine life have.

Another highlight was visiting Greenpeace’s Sydney warehouse. This is where all the magic happens – it was very interesting to see what happens behind the demonstrations and protests that make national news. I even got to see Greenpeace staff and activists preparing for their next stunt!

It was also a lot of fun to join the Greenpeace indoor soccer team for a lunchtime game. I think this is a great way of getting people out of the office and get the blood pumping!

This week has been full of many surprises and challenges, and I have learnt a lot about the work Greenpeace does. As a student I really recommend volunteering to help out the organisation. The work that is done here is nothing short of extraordinary and I will never forget my work experience week at Greenpeace Australia Pacific.

If you’d like to volunteer in the Greenpeace office, you can register your interest here.
