The Ocean Is Under Threat
Tell the Government to Act Within 100 Days
Industrial fishing, climate change, and pollution are destroying the oceans. Australia can step up to be an ocean protector — but only if the new government brings the Global Ocean Treaty into law within its first 100 days.
Right now, our blue backyard — which is abundant with whales, fish, corals, sharks, and seabirds — is being plundered by destructive industrial fishers.
The Global Ocean Treaty is our best hope to protect 30% of the world’s oceans by 2030, but it won’t become law until more countries bring it into law. Australia’s new government has a once-in-a-generation opportunity to lead — but they must act within their first 100 days in office.
Send an urgent email to the Environment Minister now and demand they ratify the treaty to protect our blue planet.

1. Keep it polite
We're asking the Federal Government to champion our marine wildlife and ecosystems by ratifying the Global Ocean Treaty. They are not the enemy, so ask nicely and please keep it respectful.
2. Be clear
Our MP needs to understand that protecting our oceans- by creating sanctuaries in places like the Tasman Sea- is in their hands. This is a once-in-a-generation chance to implement strong protections to save our oceans.
3. Spell out the risks
If the government doesn't take urgent action and implement strong laws to protect our oceans and marine ecosystems, we risk a future marked by devastating wildlife loss and the most severe impacts of climate breakdown.

The Rainbow Warrior sets sail to expose industrial fishing in the Tasman Sea
Far out in the Tasman Sea, industrial fishing fleets operate using destructive practices such as longlinging which kill sharks, turtles, seabirds and other animals.
That’s where the Rainbow Warrior comes in. Our iconic Greenpeace ship is sailing through the Tasman to investigate and expose these destructive fishing operations.
Together, we’ll call on the new Australian government to ratify the Global Ocean Treaty and, in turn, create sanctuaries where marine life can thrive, free from industrial fishing.
