Call for Clean Energy

Call ANZ for Clean EnergyBurning coal pollutes our environment, damages our health and makes global warming worse. And who is providing the dirty money to finance dirty coal power in Australia? It's the big bank that claims it 'lives in your world' – ANZ.

Community pressure recently forced ANZ to write a new energy policy outlining its position on new coal power stations. Yet ANZ deliberately left the policy unclear – failing the public, the planet and lagging behind key international banks such as HSBC and BNP Paribas that have set clear standards in this area.

TAKE ACTION: Call ANZ today

Step 1: Pick up the phone

Shane Lucas is the Head of Sustainable Development at ANZ. Part of his job is to respond to concerns regarding ANZ's coal finance. Make a quick call and tell him you want ANZ to clearly rule out financing new coal power stations in Australia. Call Shane right now on 03 8654 6273..

You don't need to know lots of in-depth information about the campaign – but let him know that you feel strongly about the need for his bank to stop financing pollution.

What you can say

  • 〉 Tell Shane your concerns about climate change and about the need to shift from coal power to renewable energy. Let him know that ruling out new coal power stations in Australia is an easy first step and makes a lot of sense given the introduction of the carbon price!
  • 〉 Ask him to clarify ANZ's vague new energy policy and rule out financing new coal power stations in Australia.
  • 〉 ANZ claims it's committed to reducing its environmental impact. But greening an office isn't good enough. Tell ANZ to put its money where its mouth is and stop financing projects that make climate change worse.

Step 2: Let us know you called

  • Send us an email so we know how many people called and what you said to ANZ and what they said back to you. Thank you for playing a big role in helping secure a clean energy future.

Step 3: Join a community action at ANZ's Annual General Meeting

If you live in Sydney, mark Friday 16 December in your diary and join us for a community action at ANZ's Annual General Meeting at the Sydney Convention Centre, Darling Harbour – a chance to hold ANZ to account if they don't clearly rule out financing new coal power.
