Climate Change in the Arctic

The 2009 Arctic Sunrise expedition

Glaciers are retreating. Ice caps are melting. These are ominous signs of a changing climate in need of our action.

In mid-2009, Greenpeace's ship, the Arctic Sunrise, left port for the North Pole. Packed to the brim with scientists, explorers and high-tech gismos, the ship embarked upon a three-month mission to chart the impacts of climate change in the Arctic. The expedition came at a critical time, as global leaders prepare to meet in Copenhagen to discuss the future of a climate changed world.

They discovered that the Arctic is very close to reaching a tipping point.
