Esperanza Swaps Shifts With Activists At Blockade

POSTED BY John Hepburn

After spending nearly 36 hours hanging like fruitbats, the four Greenpeace activists are preparing to come down from the massive coal loader at Hay Point. The Esperanza has joined the blockade and is moored a stones throw away, with three police boats between it and the wharf.
We’re hearing reports from the Pacific Islands Forum that [...]

Candle Event Marks End Of Energy [R]evolution Tour

POSTED BY Emma Pittaway

On Sunday night Cairns local residents helped to create a 3000 candle art installation in the shape of a wind turbine on Cairns city esplanade. The event marked the end of our highly successful 6-week tour up the eastern seaboard from Sydney to Cairns. It was a beautiful statement of the community’s support for our [...]

The Esperanza arrives in our final port of call

POSTED BY Emma Pittaway

We arrived in Cairns yesterday afternoon, our final stop in the Energy [R]evolution tour. After nearly 6 weeks at sea, it will be strange for us on the campaign team to soon be sleeping in beds that don’t rock!

5000 visitors to the Esperanza have the power to create change

POSTED BY Emma Pittaway

Another Saturday, another balmy, sunny open boat day in far North Queensland. This week we are in Townsville and with the 400 people who visited the ship today, the total number of people who’ve been on board since we began in Sydney 5 weeks ago climbed to over 5000.
That’s over 5000 people who have heard [...]

Initially, there was a requirement that we would be required to pay [...]

Why DOES the Esperanza have a diesel electric motor?

POSTED BY Emma Pittaway

Once again the Esperanza is ‘fuelling’ debate about Greenpeace sustainability. It’s a question we’re often asked on open boat days: “why does the Esperanza run on diesel? Isn’t that hypocritical?” The question has stimulated a lively debate at the Herald Sun.
There are a few important points to note here. First and foremost, the Esperanza is [...]

The Esperanza arrives at the ‘coalface’ of climate change

POSTED BY Emma Pittaway

Majestic humpback whales escorted the Esperanza as she sailed through the Sydney Harbour heads this morning, heading up the eastern seaboard to spread the message that it’s time for clean, renewable energy to be powering Australia. With 33 crew on board, from the captain to campaigners, deckhands and office volunteers, we [...]

Greenpeace Esperanza begins Energy [R]evolution tour

POSTED BY Emma Pittaway

Signing the Kyoto Protocol was an important symbolic step for the new government – much like saying sorry. In fact, it opened the door for Kevin Rudd to be a global leader on climate change, if he’s prepared to step up to the task. But to do that will require so much more than setting [...]
